Event - 4S and ESOCITE Joint Meeting 2014, Buenos Aires.
August 2014
On August 21, Anabel Marin and Patrick van Zwanenberg participated at the Meeting with a presentation on “Assessing the performance of transgenic soybeans in Argentina: Informing of forming technological commitments?”.
On August 22, researchers Valeria Arza and Patrick van Zwanenberg also presented their work on cotton production in Argentina: "Obstáculos para la diversidad tecnológica: problemas de coexistencia de alternativas productivas en algodón en Argentina".

Publication - Article on Costs and benefits of agricultural biotechnology R&D policy

Researchers Valeria Arza, Anabel Marín, Patrick van Zwanenberg and Mariano Fressoli published an article on May 26th at the Argentinean newspaper Página 12 entitled "Costos y beneficios" ("Costs and benefits"), as part of a debate on Transgenics in the eye of the storm: agricultural biotechnology R&D policy.

Event – Seminar “From resource based to knowledge based economic development”, organized by Globelics in Copenhagen
March 2014
On March 26-27, Anabel Marin participated at a Globelics Seminar with presentations on “How to improve performance of natural resource industries in developing countries” and “Using natural resource industries as a platform for the development of knowledge intensive industries in Latin America: the seed industry in Argentina, Brazil and Chile”.
The seminar was set up to provide inputs to the Globelics Thematic Report 2014, which will focus on natural resources, development and learning, innovation and competence building systems. The event brought together key academics in the field, such as Raphael Kaplinsky, Tilman Altenburg, Kristine Bruland, Dave Kaplan and Jorge Katz.

Event - Workshop with small producers in Argentina
November 2013
Together with CONICET (the National Scientific and Technical Resarch Council), Fundación CENIT organized a workshop with small producers from Argentina to support technological linkages between them and the Council. The event took place on November 26-27 in Buenos Aires, and had as main objective to identify the technological and organizational needs of small producers in order to find effective ways of solving such problems through the knowledge generated by researchers from the Council.

Event - Screening of the project's video-documentary at the Center of Development Research (ZEF, University of Bonn)
November 2013
On November 5th, the video-documentary Sustainable Development was shown at the Center of Development Research (Zentrum für Entwicklungsforschung - ZEF), an institute affiliated to the University of Bonn, followed by a question-and-answer session via teleconference with researcher Anabel Marin.

Event - Second promotional event of the project's video-documentary

The video-documentary Sustainable Development was shown on Thursday, October 24th, at the Science and Technology Fair (Tecnópolis) in Buenos Aires, followed by a performance of Homero Carabajal in the absence of his father Peteco Carabajal, a renowned Argentinean contemporary folk musician.

Event - First promotional event of the video-documentary Sustainable Development

On October 6th took place the event "Pensar y Cantar la Tierra" ("To Think of and Sing to planet Earth") at Patio Criollo La Margarita (Villa Urquiza, Buenos Aires). During this event, the video-documentary Sustainable Development was shown, followed by the musical performance of Juan Cruz Álvarez, Paula Suárez, Pablo Ledesma, Julia Sabatin and Laura Marín.

Event - Presentation at the University of Buenos Aires about technological capabilitiies in the Argentinean seed industry

Anabel Marín made a presentation about developing capabilities in the seed industry in Argentina at the Inter-university Seminar on Argentinean Productive Development (Seminario Interuniversitario sobre Desarrollo Productivo Argentino - SIDPA), held on 17 July 2013 at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).

Event - Aalborg University's PhD Course Theories of Sustainable Transitions

Anabel Marín and Adrian Smith participated as invited lecturers in the PhD Course Theories of Sustainable Transitions of the Aalborg University, Copenhagen, held on 22-24 May 2013. The presentation on Creating spaces for transformative sustainable innovation intended to illustrate the main challenges in promoting sustainable transition efforts in Argentina and Brazil.

Event - Participation in STEPS Centre Summer School 2013
May 2013
Anabel Marín participated in STEPS Summer School 2013, held on 13-24 May at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex. Together with Adrian Smith (SPRU/The Sussex Energy Group), Dr. Marín made a presentation on Grassroots innovation and transitions, and took part in the World cafe discussion on innovation and transitions. The Summer Schools brings together people to explore and develop ideas on pathways to sustainability through lectures, discussions, ‘walkshops’ and social events.

Event - Seminar on Raúl Prebisch and 21st century challenges, organized by ECLAC-IDRC in Santiago de Chile

ECLAC launches a new website to promote discussion and research about the thinking of the renowned Argentine economist, Raúl Prebisch. For this occasion, ECLAC and IDRC organized a Seminar on Raúl Prebisch and 21st century challenges on November 5-6, 2012 in Santiago de Chile. The event was attended by representatives of universities and research centers in the region, and other figures from the economic academia, such as Dr. José Miguel Benaventes, who participated in the discussion with the topic Natural resources, technological paths and industrial policy in peripheral countries.

Event - Workshop at Adolfo Ibañez University
October 2012
The research team held a workshop on 10-12 October at Adolfo Ibañez University (Santiago de Chile) to present the main results in the fieldwork and discuss the project outputs. Presentations were made for each of the country/sectors as well as a general overview of commonalities and differences between natural resource industries in the region and the alternative pathways studied.
Event - Presentation at the IV Feria de Tecnologías Sostenibles (FETECSO 2012)
October 2012
Anabel Marín participated in the IV edition of the FETECSO fair (organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentina) at a panel on Technological Solutions and Sustainable Environment ("Soluciones Tecnológicas y Ambiente Sostenible"). The presentation included a first overview of the results in Argentina, Brazil and Chile, with a special focus on the outcomes and barriers to growth of the alternatives studied by the project.

Publication - Article on Argentina's new agreement with Monsanto

Researchers Valeria Arza and Anabel Marín published an article on September 3rd at the Argentinean newspaper Página 12 entitled "Entusiasmo puesto en duda" ("Enthusiasm called into question"), as part of a debate on The effects caused by soybeans: the impact of price increases and the new agreement with Monsanto.

Side-event - United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20
June 2012
On June 13th, a panel on "Biodiversity and Natural Resources for Sustainability" was held at the Rio+20 side-event organized by the CGEE. The objective of this panel was to discuss how we can foster the promotion of sustainable natural resources based activities and the transition of its sociotechnical regimes. José Miguel Benavente (Intelis/UAI, Chile) participated as a panelist, presenting the project's objectives, research stages and some of the key findings. Also, Daniel Sabará, Corporate Director of Beraca's Health & Personal Care Division, presented the company's Biodiversity Enhancement Program and its interaction with local communities in their efforts to promote a sustainable exploitation of the Amazon's rich biodiversity –one of the cases on transformative alternatives studied in Brazil as part of this project.

Publication - Contribution from Anabel Marín to IPC-IG's Poverty in Focus
June 2012
Researcher Anabel Marín (Cenit, Argentina) has contributed to the UNDP International Policy Center for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG)'s Poverty in Focus series, Issue No.24, with the article "Putting Natural Resource Industries to Work for Sustainable Development: Lessons for South-South Cooperation". This special issue from the Poverty in Focus, launched in IPC-IG Rio+20 side-event, is focused on Africa and the role of south-south cooperation in African agricultural development. The article enriches the discussions on Africa by drawing lessons from Argentina's experience in promoting soybean production, the implications of the soy model and the policy challenges in making the agricultural sector more inclusive and environmentally sustainable.
